ADT Security and Lyft Form Protection Partnership

Alpharetta, Georgia – On October 14th, 2019, the ride-sharing company Lyft announced a partnership with national security company ADT to address concerns of rider safety.

Lyft’s press release reported “Lyft and ADT plan to develop new features designed to give riders and drivers peace of mind and enhance safety.”

Currently Lyft has approximately two million drivers serving on average 30 million riders. The first step in the partnership will be a safety feature pilot scheduled to begin in early 2020 in approximately nine markets with the ultimate goal of rolling the program our nationally to Lyft’s 2 million drivers.

As stated in the press release, “in an emergency, Lyft users will be able to signal ADT that they are in need of assistance via an ADT powered feature in the Lyft app. A user will then be connected to one of ADT’s owned and operated monitoring centers, where an ADT security professional will alert authorities as needed so they can arrive at the Lyft riders location, equipped with detailed incident information.”

The ADT feature in the Lyft app allows riders to place either a voice call or a discreet SMS chat with an ADT operator. This feature is in addition to the existing capability of the Lyft app to initiate access to make a 911 call within the app.
